The office of the City Clerk provides administrative, research, and legislative support to the mayor and the City Council of Hampton, Virginia. This includes the processing of legislative items and all related information. The city clerk is appointed by the mayor and City Council, and her office provides staff support to the various city departments.
The City Council meets regularly and the second and forth Wednesday of every month, and holds regular business sessions on the same day as the evening council meeting.
City Council Responsibilities

The Council is the policy-making body of the City and is vested with all the rights and powers conferred on councils in Virginia cities.

The Council appoints the City Manager, who is the chief administrator and executive officer of the City.
