Consideration of the Neighborhood Commission Recommendation on the Expansion of the Hampton Housing Venture



WHEREAS, the need to concentrate public investments in housing reinvestment within small geographic areas was established in 2001 with the creation of the Hampton Housing Venture; and


WHEREAS, the Sussex neighborhood is bordered by Stratford Drive, Clyde Street, Roadsview Avenue and Armstrong Drive; and

WHEREAS, Neighborhood Commissioners and City staff met with the residents of Sussex at their regular meeting on December 19, 2006; and


WHEREAS, at that meeting, the Sussex Neighborhood Association voted unanimously to support designation as a Hampton Housing Venture neighborhood; and


WHEREAS, at their March 12, 2007 meeting, the Hampton Neighborhood Commission approved the Neighborhood Commission Reinvestment Committee recommendation that the Hampton Housing Venture be expanded to include the Sussex neighborhood; and


WHEREAS, this recommendation is consistent with the Kecoughtan Master Plan which states that the Sussex neighborhood should be a Hampton Housing Venture neighborhood.


NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ross A. Kearney, Mayor of the City of Hampton, Virginia, do hereby designate the Sussex neighborhood as a Hampton Housing Venture area in the City of Hampton.




Adopted at the regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia held on April 11, 2007.
