Proclamation in memory of Robert L. Journell

 

WHEREAS, Robert L. Journell, a native of Hampton, graduated from Hampton High School; and

 

WHEREAS, Robert L. Journell served in the United States Army Air Corps in World War II and in the United States Air Force during the Korean War; and

 

WHEREAS, Robert L. Journell resided in the Chicago area for many years before returning to Virginia in 1993; and

 

WHEREAS, Robert L. Journell was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 176, Charter President of the Korean War Veterans Association, Tidewater Chapter 191, State Commander of the Korean War Veterans Association and a member of American Legion Hampton Roads Post 31 in Hampton; and

 

WHEREAS, Robert L. Journell served as Co-Chair of The Wall that Heals, a presentation at Post 31 in 2002, depicting a one-half scale model of the Vietnam Memorial Wall; and

 

WHEREAS, Robert L. Journell, a charter member of the Mayors Military Affairs Committee for the City of Hampton, served as Chair of the Committees Hampton Memorial Plaza Committee and as Chair of the Korean War Memorial Dedication Committee; and

 

WHEREAS, Robert L. Journell is survived by his wife, Charlotte, and four children;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ross A. Kearney, II, on behalf of the City Council of the City of Hampton, do hereby recognize the invaluable impact Robert L. Journell made through his dedication and service to the citizens of Hampton, and he will be missed by his family and friends.
