Resolution Allocating $100,000 from
the FY05 Council Initiatives Capital Improvements Project for the Phoebus
Waterfront Improvements and Designating Tidewater Dockmasters to Remove
Creosote Pilings and Pier - Engineering Services Project No. 05-042.
WHEREAS, Council had approved a Capital Improvements Project for
waterfront improvements along Mill Creek on city-owned property next to the Mugler Bridge; and
WHEREAS, this site is intended to become a waterfront seafood
market, and/or a public park or other possible uses; and
WHEREAS, in order to begin the design/permitting work and advance
site work for these waterfront improvements, an allocation of previously
appropriated funds is necessary; and
WHEREAS, the conceptual design, survey and permitting work is
expected to cost approximately $57,500; and
WHEREAS, the existing site has a number of dilapidated creosote
pilings, pier remnants and other debris in Mill Creek; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to remove these
pilings and to clean up the waterfront portion of the site in preparation for
the future improvements; and
WHEREAS, Tidewater Dockmasters, a local Hampton company, is
available to perform this work at a cost of $42,500.
BE IT RESOLVED, that $100,000 is hereby allocated
for design/permitting work and for advance site work, from the FY05 Council
Initiatives Capital Improvements Project.
NOW, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Tidewater Dockmasters is
hereby designated to remove creosote pilings and pier remnants as part of the
Phoebus Waterfront Improvements project.
