A Zoning Ordinance Amendment for
Special Public Interest-Public Land District (SPI-PL)(Sec. 17.3-25) is
requested by the City of Hampton.
Article IV. Public
Land District (PL)
Sec. 17.3-25. Purpose of the
establishes a special classification for certain parcels of land which are
intended to be conserved and protected and/or used for recreational purposes.
The principal purposes of the Public Land District are:
(1) to conserve and protect open space, natural environmental
features, and wildlife habitat;
(2) to enhance the quality of life with provision of space for
walking, passive recreation, and aesthetic enjoyment; and
(3) to provide for recreational opportunities, where appropriate.

lands owned or leased by the City of Hampton or any other governmental entity
or political subdivision and shall hereinafter be referred to as Public Land. No property shall be
rezoned to the PL District if any use exists on the property which would be
Sec. 17.3-27. Permitted Uses.
A building or land
shall be used only for the following purposes:
(1) Public Land that is used for activities such as parks,
conservation areas, land reserves, recreation, and historic sites.
(2) Accessory uses associated with Public Land.
