Resolution Authorizing the balance of $193,369.42 from the Sprint Nextel E-911 Rebanding Reimbursement be appropriated from Assigned Fund Balance for the sole purpose of funding the E-911 Telephone Switch Upgrade Project to the Information Technology Department within the Capital Project Fund.

 

WHEREAS, the E-911 Telephone Switch Upgrade project will increase the City of Hamptons capacity to receive E-911 calls with more information such as text messages, photos and video from cellular callers;

 

WHEREAS, text messaging is a vital issue for citizens who are hearing impaired or perhaps in a situation where they cannot speak on the telephone, but need emergency assistance;

 

WHEREAS, this project has been partially funded by a Virginia E-911 Services Board FY 2014 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Grant in the amount of $150,000 which was received and appropriated by Council at its April 10, 2013 meeting;

 

WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends that the remaining balance of $193,369.42 from the Sprint Nextel E-911 Rebanding Reimbursement be used to complete funding for this vitally important project.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HAMPTON, VIRGINIA, that the balance of $193,369.42 from the Sprint Nextel E-911 Rebanding Reimbursement be appropriated from Assigned Fund Balance to the Information Technology Department within the Capital Project Fund for the sole purpose of funding the E-911 Telephone Switch Upgrade project.

 

Adopted at the regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia held on August 14, 2013.
