Enactment Number: -

Resolution to Forgive $25,000 of the Outstanding Balance of a Loan Between the City and the Virginia Air & Space Center.

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the City of Hampton, Virginia, advanced funds to the Virginia Air and Space Center to acquire a portable ice-skating rink to be repaid to the City in three equal annual installments commencing after the first year of operation of the ice-skating rink; and,

WHEREAS, the Virginia Air and Space Center made the first of the three installments in FY 2008 and the remaining balance of the loan is $50,000; and,

WHEREAS, the Virginia Air and Space Center also operates a bumper boat rink during the summer season; and,

WHEREAS, the City of Hampton has scheduled the much needed replacement of the roof on the City-owned facility housing the Virginia Air and Space Center and the scheduled replacement, for safety reasons, does not permit the Virginia Air and Space Center to operate either the ice-skating rink or the bumper boats during the roof replacement; and,

WHEREAS, the inability to operate these two activities in the area adjacent to the facility will result in a potential loss of revenues by the Virginia Air and Space Center; and,

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Hampton understands the potential loss and recognizes that the scheduling of the roof replacement is not within the discretion of the Virginia Air and Space Center; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HAMPTON, VIRGINIA: that $25,000 of the outstanding balance of the loan between the City of Hampton and the Virginia Air and Space Center for the purchase of the portable ice-skating rink is hereby forgiven in consideration for the Virginia Air and Space Center relocation of the ice-skating rink during the 2008-2009 winter season and inability to operate the bumper boats during the 2009 summer season.

Adopted at the regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia held on June 10, 2009.
