Proposed acquisition of property, known as 25 Freeman Drive, from Mark A. Johnson.

 

A RESOLUTION TO APPROVE A

PROPERTY PURCHASE CONTRACT

 

WHEREAS, staff negotiated a contract for the City of Hampton to purchase 25 Freeman Drive, from Mark A. Johnson; and

 

WHEREAS, 25 Freeman Drive is a residential property consisting of a 7,500 square foot parcel of land, more or less, and 1,207 square foot one-story single family dwelling with carport; and

 

WHEREAS, 25 Freeman Drive is being acquired as part of the Crossroads Redevelopment Project to serve in part for the relocation of Freeman Drive with the remaining greater majority for reuse as public open space as addressed in the 2010 Comprehensive Plan; and

 

WHEREAS, the contract price is deemed fair and reasonable, the terms of the contract are acceptable, and acquisition money will come from the Bond Fund for Strategic Properties, and it is in the public interest to acquire the property; and

 

WHEREAS, Settlement will take place within ninety (90) days from date of contract ratification by Council to give seller adequate time to find and relocate to suitable replacement housing; and

 

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia: that the aforesaid property purchase contract is hereby approved and that all necessary closing documents may be executed by the City Manager or his designee.
