Designated Donation to the Citys Parks and Recreation Department to assist in the improvement and upkeep of Ridgway Park.

 

RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerces Leadership Institute Class of 2004 adopted Hamptons Ridgway Park as its class project; and

WHEREAS, in cooperation with the Citys Park and Recreation Department, the Class cleared brush, picked up trash, planted grass and trees, built benches, and purchased a new entryway sign for the Park; and

WHEREAS, through raffles, t-shirt sales, and the charitable giving of individual and corporate citizens, fund raising efforts raised $6,832.60 after expenses; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Peninsula Leadership Institute Class of 2004 would like to donate these funds to the Citys Park and Recreation Department with the stipulation that the funds be expended solely for the purpose of beautifying Ridgway Park; and

WHEREAS, Section 2-134 of the Hampton City Code provides that gifts to the City whose fair market value is $1,000.00 or more, shall be approved by the Council; and

WHEREAS, the Council desires to approve the donation from the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerces Leadership Institute Class of 2004.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council:

1.                  That the Council of the City of Hampton hereby approves the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerces Leadership Institute Class of 2004 donation in the amount of $6,832.60; and

2.                  That these funds be designated for use by the Citys Parks and Recreation Department solely for the purpose of beautifying Ridgway Park.

 

Adopted at the regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia held on August 9, 2006.
