AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND RE-ENACT CHAPTER 2, ADMINISTRATION BY ADDING THERETO ARTICLE XIII, OFFICE OF COMMUNITY AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

 

 

BE IT ORDAINED, by the Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia, that Chapter 2, Article XIII, of the Code of the City of Hampton, Virginia, be amended and re-enacted to read as follows:

 

Article XIII. Office of Community and International Relations

 

Sec. 2-300. Office established; responsibilities; administration by special assistant to city manager.

 

(a)   There is hereby established an Office of Community and International Relations (the Office) which shall be under the general supervision of the city manager. The Office shall be directed and administered by a special assistant to the city manager who shall be appointed by and directly responsible to the city manager.

(b)   The city manager is hereby authorized and empowered to designate the specific duties and responsibilities of the Office within its general responsibility for public communications, community outreach, diversity education, promotion of cultural understanding, and cultivation and maintenance of appropriate international relationships. The Office shall provide direction and oversight to the Public Communications Office and the Citizens Unity Commission.

(c)   The special assistant to the city manager assigned to the Office shall be responsible for and exercise such functions as may be assigned to the Office by ordinance or as may be designated by the city manager consistent with such ordinances.
