Resolution Authorizing the Acceptance of a Donation from Coliseum Central BID, Inc. of a Sculpture, Three Flag Poles with Silks and Ground Lighting to the City of Hampton to be Located on Median of Coliseum Drive Near Pine Chapel Road

 

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the City of Hampton (the City) is the owner of a certain parcel of real property described as the median on Coliseum Drive near Pine Chapel Road in the City of Hampton, Virginia;

WHEREAS, the City has recently completed streetscape improvements on Coliseum Drive and Coliseum Central BID, Inc. has contracted with a local artist to create a stainless steel sculpture named Song for John to be placed in the median of Coliseum Drive near Pine Chapel Road;

WHEREAS, the Coliseum Central BID, Inc. desires to donate the sculpture, three flagpoles, decorative silks and ground lighting fixtures to the City of Hampton as a public art donation;

WHEREAS, Hampton City Code 2-134 requires gifts to the City whose fair market value is five thousand dollars or more shall be approved by the Council, and the gift from Coliseum BID, Inc. is in excess of such amount; and

WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Hampton is of the opinion that it is in the best interests of the City to accept this gift in support of public art.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HAMPTON, VIRGINIA that it accepts the donation of the sculpture named Song of John along with three flagpoles, decorative silks and ground lighting fixtures from Coliseum Central BID, Inc. as part of a continued revitalization of the streetscape on Coliseum Drive near Pine Chapel Road.

Adopted at the regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Hampton, Virginia held on March 26, 2008.
