CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
  Mayor Wallace called the meeting to order. Councilwomen Curtis and Snead were not present.

  Mayor Wallace asked that Councilman Moffett give the invocation.

MAYOR'S COMMENTS
  Mayor Wallace indicated that there was a ceremonial item to take place and asked Mary Bunting, City Manager, to give introductory comments.

She introduced Hampton's new Police Chief, Terry Sult.

Ms. Bunting then acknowledged former Interim Police Chief Thomas H. Townsend. Chief Townsend was accompanied by his wife Melanie, his mother Pauline, and his daughters Sara Brown and Courtney Brightbill. Chief Townsend was presented with a resolution, the renaming of a conference room, and Hampton's Distinguished Citizen Medal.

REPORTS BY CITY MANAGER, CITY COUNCIL, STAFF, COMMITTEES
  The City Manager, Mary Bunting, brought City Council up to date on the staff efforts to communicate on the proposed rental dwelling ordinance and indicated a vote on the issue is scheduled for a special session of City Council on October 23, 2013.

Ms. Bunting also indicated that she has met with some hotel/motel owners who have some practical suggestions about its implementation. She will continue to work to make the ordinance more practical for businesses while achieving its purpose.
Miscellaneous New Business
  Councilman Stuart asked that staff consider another means of indicating a decrease in the speed limit on Settler's Landing Road.
