New Business
  Discussion of Military Affairs Committee assisting with USS Hampton Recognition
  ACTION: Moved to designate the Military Affairs Committee to handle the functions of a recognition event for the USS Hampton and other military functions as needed.

  The City Manager reported that Urban Design Associates will begin work on the design of the I-64 to Pembroke Avenue segment.

The City Manager announced that Senator Allen has invited Council to a town meeting concerning Veteran's issues to occur at the VA Medical Center on August 17, 2005, at 7 p.m.
  Discussion of fundraising by Military Affairs Committee

Councilman Sapp indicated there are times when it would be beneficial for the Military Affairs Committee to be able to fundraise and a discussion took place regarding the possibilities. It was generally decided that the matter would be considered by resolution in the evening session.
  Councilmember Leary asked when the reports on the amateur sports complex and on the Hampton Roads Convention Center would take place. The City Manager responded that there would be a report on the sports complex during the first meeting of September and the first quarterly report on the convention center is expected in early October.
