Daily Press reporter Robert Brauchle was also present.
A summary report from the facilitators is attached hereto and will serve as the minutes of this meeting.
Continuation of Retreat Activities and Discussion: Team Building and Vision Development
Council aided by the facilitators, began with a team building exercise about strengths and needs and discussed ground rules and guiding principles. They brainstormed potential strategic partners and reached consensus that their areas of focus should be education, safety, economic growth, housing, and Fort Monroe. They discussed potential partners in those areas.
Following lunch, they discussed the role of the Mayor. They briefly discussed strategies to engage various partners and agreed that one meeting a month will focus on vision and strategy. Council also agreed to Council liaisons as follow: Education - Schmidt and Snead, Safety - Curtis and Moffett, Economic Growth - Wallace and Hobbs, Housing - Snead and Tuck, and Fort Monroe - Wallace and Curtis.
Council also discussed their meeting structure and generally agreed to two afternoon meetings each month to begin at 12 noon and two evening business meetings each month to begin at 6:30 p.m., both on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. Spotlight on Citizens will continue in the current format but the time will be changed to 6 p.m. The public comment sessions will return to being a part of the evening business meeting agenda. It is not anticipated that meetings will take place on the fourth Wednesday of each month in June, July and August (although participants are requested to avoid scheduling vacations during those times in case an additional meeting is needed) and will also not take place on the fourth Wednesdays in November and December.
The meeting adjourned at 4:54 p.m.
