Call to Order
Mayor Ward called the meeting to order at 10:40 a.m. with Councilwoman Leary and Vice Mayor Spencer in attendance so there was no quorum. Councilman Gilliland and Councilman Washington had previously indicated they would be unable to attend.
A general discussion took place where Yaromir Steiner of Steiner + Associates shared information on the status of Peninsula Town Center. Vice Mayor Spencer shared that he recently spoke with the manager of Five Guys and learned that their sales have exceeded their expectations. Mr. Steiner indicated that both Five Guys and Chipotle at Peninsula Town Center are the best performers in the region. He reminded Council that there is somewhat of a 'honeymoon period" and some decrease should be expected. He also indicated that they will be watching the numbers as additional restaurants are added. Mr. Steiner encouraged Council to encourage others to visit Macy's to shop due to its importance as an anchor tenant and to ask for better brands since stores very much rely upon this type of direct feedback from their customers.
Mr. Steiner was accompanied by Anne Mastin, the Executive Vice President of Leasing, Ralph Ireland, Chief Development Officer, and Justin Leyda, Development Executive, all of Steiner + Associates. They were later joined by Raymond Tripp, General Manager of Peninsula Town Center, and Greg Glass, the Chief Operating Officers, from Mall Properties.
The following members of City staff were present: Assistant City Managers Mary Bunting, John Eagle, and James A. "Pete" Peterson; Cynthia Hudson, City Attorney; Dianne Foster, Special Assistant to the City Manager; Vanessa Valdejuli, Senior Deputy City Attorney; James Eason, Director of Economic Development; Angela Freeman, Retail Development Manager; and Katherine K. Glass, Clerk of Council.
At 10:55 Councilman Wallace arrived and Councilman Kearney arrived a few minutes thereafter.
