INVOCATION - Angela Leary
  The invocation was given by Councilwoman Angela Lee Leary.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO FLAG -
  The colors were presented by Boy Scouts Thomas and Jeffrey Wheeless of Troop 151 and Girl Scouts Desiree Naylor of Troop 1263 and Kristin Sotomayor of Troop 1220.

The Mayor also introduced three students who were attending from Gloria Dei.
MAYOR'S COMMENTS
  Councilwoman Leary briefly spoke about the activities of Scout Youth in Government Day which took place today at City Hall.

Audiences Granted to the General Public
  The Mayor recognized Clyde Hoey of the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, who was in attendance at the meeting, and expressed Council's very best wishes upon the occasion of his retirement. Mr. Hoey indicated that he came to thank the Hampton City Council and its predecessors for their support over the years.

Sandra Canepa of 3 Markham Drive spoke and thanked Council for their efforts with respect to the B lots of Buckroe.

Councilman Gilliland spoke about the issue of offshore drilling in the Chesapeake Bay. He indicated that he does not support oil and gas drilling off of the Virginia coast but does support alternative energy sources. He spoke about Brazil who, after 30 years of research, is now energy independent. Councilman Sapp expressed an alternate view of this issue and expressed that we need to think our way through this. Councilwoman Leary indicated that she expressed her thoughts on the issue to the Governor via e-mail.

Councilwoman Leary relayed that she recently attended the National League of Cities Conference in Washington, D.C. She plans to report back at the next Council meeting.
