Call to Order / Roll Call
Mayor Ward called the meeting to order at 6:04 p.m. Councilman Washnigton was not present at roll call but arrived just after.
Rudy Langford, speaking on behalf of the Coalition for Justice for Civil Rights, expressed appreciation to Councilman Randy Gilliland.
Eddie Deerfield, speaking on behalf of the Coalition for Justice for Civil Rights, expressed appreciation to Councilman Paige V. Washington, Jr. and Vice Mayor Joseph H. Spencer, II.
Frank J. Ottofaro spoke about the North King Street master plan and Kecoughtan Road and the need for sidewalks in various areas of Hampton. He also spoke on the taxes he pays on his utility trailer.
Mayor Ward recognized two Boy Scouts in the audience, Richard Freeman and L. Marion Anderson, Jr., who were working on their communications merit badge.
Walter Sargent spoke on the lack of funding to the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board.
Hugh Bassette spoke about the need for sidewalks and curb and gutter in the Old Northampton section of the city.
Edwin Boone spoke about the lack of respect shown to Councilwoman Leary.
Donnie R. Tuck expressed his appreciation to the outgoing members of Council and recognized Will Moffett and Chris Stuart who will be serving with him beginning on July 1, 2010. He also shared information on the issue being considered by Council concerning whether or not the City of Hampton should pick up the employee's contribution to the Virginia Retirement System.
John Krulis spoke on the H2O project and some incorrect information he previously provided at a Council meeting. He thanked the City Manager for listening and for providing correct information.
The meeting adjourned at 6:34 p.m.
