MAYOR'S COMMENTS
  Mayor Kearney welcomed students from Hampton University who were attending the meeting.

Mayor Kearney recognized Stuart Flechner of the Hampton Public-Service Team who announced that the Ham Radio Operators' Annual Field Day will take place on June 28 and 29, 2008. It will be held at the Northampton Church of Christ.

Mayor Kearney asked the City Attorney, Cynthia Hudson, to bring the public up-to-date on the situation with respect to disclosure of the settlement amount regarding the litigation involving the former City Manager and some members of Council.
  ACTION: Council Vice Mayor Gilliland moved that the Council direct the City Attorney to continue efforts, along with the legal team representing the City, to contact the Federal Judge and contact Mr. Wallace’s attorneys to ask that there is full disclosure; that the full agreement is released and be released post haste.

Audiences Granted to the General Public
  Willie J. Brown; George Johnson, III; Noletha Taylor, and Leah Dixon spoke on behalf of the Virginia Scholarship and Youth Development Foundation (Tim Reid Scholarship) in seeking funding from the City of Hampton.

Frank J. Ottofaro spoke about the taking of his property on Pine Chapel Road.

Hugh Bassette spoke about improving the sidewalks, curbs and gutters in the Old Northampton area.

Donnie Tuck spoke about Neighborhoods USA. He also spoke about the need for benches on Saville Row. Additionally he spoke on the sale of the Radisson and the cutting of trees in Buckroe.
Miscellaneous New Business
  Councilwoman Leary reminded everyone that April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Councilwoman Leary also encouraged citizens to attend forums to become educated about the candidates and she encouraged all to vote on May 6.

Councilman Clary apologized for arriving late and missing the Mayor's Comments. He thanked Council for their position on open government and disclosure. He indicated that, had he been present, his vote would have been in favor of the motion.

Councilwoman Leary read a quote from a Virginia Municipal League publication.

Mayor Kearney thanked the Hampton University students for attending.
